SKIN DEEP examines the race relationships between Blacks and Whites. Bringing the voices of both races to dialog is the path to understanding. The artists, Monique Birault, Zeal Harris, Ted Meyer, Jackie Nach, Miles Regis, Franceska Schifrin, Garth Trinidad, and Richard Turner, revealed their voice through their works.
Through her drawings and paintings, Zeal Harris avoids making art about racism, yet her micro-narratives offer socio-political commentary about a range of related issues. The warmth Ted Meyer expresses in his paintings, suggests a simple solution to racial conflict through interracial relationships. South African born painter/printmaker Jackie Nach integrates the soil of the land of apartheid into her mixed media paintings. The poignant paintings of Miles Regis will shed light on our equality. The Human Expressionistic paintings of Franceska Schifrin strive for the truth, not for the facts. Before his flourishing career as a radio personality, Garth Trinidad was a student at the prestigious Otis College of Art and Design. After a ten-year hiatus from art, he makes his debut with a painting expressly created for Skin Deep. Richard Turner’s paintings say “Take Responsibility”. Jewelry designer Monique Birault exemplifies harmony through juxtapositions between the two colors in her pieces made exclusively for Skin Deep.
