Inspired by the success of our November 2011 exhibition entitled RED, The Loft at Liz’s features “Alchemy” – a group exhibition strategically focusing on the subject of “gold”. From statements of value and prestige throughout recorded history to our elemental reliance in modern technology, this show examines the variety of meanings behind the color, the element, and it’s usage in visual art.

As the science of matter, alchemy, throughout history carried a wide range of applications including
metallurgy, distillation, chemical medicine and transmutation.

The forerunner of modern chemistry, this transmutation of base materials into prized elements continues today as a framework of theory, terminology and experimental processes providing a structural basis and theoretic goal to a significant cross-section of contemporary art.
