Melba Levick began her career as a photographer in Paris, France in the early 1970’s, having studied photography at the San Francisco Art Institute and with Perkle Jones, Ansel Adam’s printer.

For the first fifteen years of her career, she did black and white fine arts photography, which was exhibited frequently in Paris, Barcelona and New York, often in conjunction with her books. Her work has appeared in magazines world-wide.   Her photographs have been made part of the collection of the Biblioteque Nationale in Paris.

Melba has done over 60 books on travel, design, architecture and gardens, working in Europe, Asia and the Americas.

She was awarded best photographer on India world-wide for 2009 by the Indian Ministry of Tourism for her books, INDIA SUBLIME, PRINCELY PALACES OF RAJASTHAN and INDIACOLOR.

Currently Melba Levick works for publishers Rizzoli International and Chronicle Books in the USA and Ediciones Poligrafa in Barcelona.

She is best known for her books on California homes and gardens, her books on Gaudi and the “modernismo” era in Barcelona, the MEXICOLOR collection and her three books on India: INDIA SUBLIME (Rizzoli), INDIACOLOR (Chronicle Books), and SOUTH INDIA, A MOSAIC (Roli Books).

Rizzoli International has published her most recent books– COTTAGES IN THE SUN (VENICE BEACH HOUSES), CLASSIC HOMES OF LOS ANGELES, and THE CALIFORNIA CASA, which is scheduled for release in April, 2012.

Her most recent exhibition—MOMENTOS LEJANOS—took place in Formentera, Spain in July 2011.

She lives and works, with her husband, writer and composer Hugh Levick, in Venice Beach (Los Angeles), and in Paris, France.
