Diverted Destruction Opening Reception photos

Thank you for attending the opening of Diverted Destruction Part 3! The night was a huge success, attended by artists, patrons of the Loft and lovers of found object and assemblage art.  Guests enjoyed appetizers and desserts made by the artists, and Chef Sepi of Mother Organica made a flavorful Vegetarian Puttanesca.

The third annual Diverted Destruction show features artists who turn castoff material into art. Sandhi Schimmel creates mosaic pop art portraits from junk mail; Mary Larsen reuses floppy discs by using them as canvases for her paintings; the whimsical assemblages of Dave Lovejoy incorporate vintage and repurposed objects. Frank Miller uses discarded industrial and mechanical parts to create imagined bas-relief landscapes; reclaimed architectural objects are the foundation of Joan Robey’s constructions;

Rani Laik creates functional art objects out of salvaged steel. Richard Turner creates assemblages of imaginary religious idols with found pieces of flattened metal and electrical wire; used auto parts become functional objects in George Ousman Diagne’s work, Gregg Hill creates sculptural objects from compressed trash cans, June Diamond transforms wine bottles into contemporary light fixtures, Ching Ching Cheng sculpts salvaged books into identifiable objects, and Annemarie Rawlinson assembles whimsical characters from metal scraps. In addition to the art, the opening will offer guests the chance to become reuse artists themselves.

Diverted Destruction Part 3 will be up until September 7, 2010. Thank you again for being a part of The Loft at Liz’s!
