The landscape, mysterious and intriguing, is always the central theme in my work. My artworks are populated by humans and other creatures who are always in relationship to this natural element. The scenes I depict are an intertwining of real landscapes with those of the mind. Landforms seem to retain the imprint of past events. This combines with our own personal projections and mankind’s long history of nature myths. The resulting landscape is as much about the strata of the mind as it is layers of rock.
In my artwork as in my life, I am preoccupied with nature and hold great reverence for it. It is central to my artwork not only as subject matter, but also as a source of energy and inspiration. I look and listen for the secret language of nature in the sighing of the wind, the drone of insects, and the patterns of cracks in tree bark. Personifications of natural forces in the form of the mysterious denizens of the woods and fields, Dryads and Pan creatures, have populated my artworks for many years.
The spherical shapes reflect my desire to move beyond the unwanted border of the canvas edges. By painting on spheres, I experience the freedom of seamless compositions and the resulting parade of continuous imagery.
