A line between destruction and creation does exist in my process.  Often this line is torn open, stitched shut, bent carefully until it snaps, then glued and clamped back together. Since childhood, I’ve required dismantling, dissecting or smashing everyday objects to get at their innards and try to understand what things are made of. I’m in a constant state of observation. If I’m not observing the world I’m creating something in response to it. At the moment I begin to create, any number of forces are at work; gravity, tension, or the air I breathe.  It is this moment when I am solely interested in finding, manipulating and arranging these studied objects into some sort of function or balance that makes sense.  If I could not take things apart, I could not put things together.

Ultimately, I make art because it reassures me that there is always going to be something new.
