PHIL TARLEY’S video work was exhibited in The Guggenheim Museum in 2000 and a thirty hour oeuvre has been acquired by the permanent archives of The New York Public Library. Tarley’s photography and stories has been published in Newsweek, The LA Weekly , Genre and Adventure Journal, among others. His student film, nominated for an Academy Award, was and aired on PBS. His photographs, videos and films have been featured in festivals, galleries and private collections around the world.

Tarley began studying photography at City College of San Francisco’s Photography Laboratory, where he became intrigued by the kinetic power of cinematography. The artist studied creative writing and received his B.A. in Film and Drama from San Francisco State University. He is a Cinematography Fellow of The American Film Institute.

Tarley’s art works, papers, articles, films, videos and photographs are housed at The One Institute Archives and in The Legacy Collection at The University of Southern California. Tarley regularly writes about fine art photography and photographs manifestations of art and pop culture for The WOW Report and is a contributing writer for Fabrik magazine. In 2011 he was juried into the Los Angles Art association as a fine art photographer. As an art critic, he has written about Art Basel Miami Beach every year since its inception. He is a contemporary art juror for the Lark International Show.

Phil Tarley also writes character-driven, narrative, non-fiction travel stories and is polishing a collection of them for a book to be published under a nom de plume. Many of these stories along with his photographs have been published in a diversity of magazines. A native New Yorker, Phil Tarley worked abroad for many years. He now resides in Los Angeles, California.
